# Errors

> Understand OnePanel API error responses.

Errors return a JSON object with a human-readable `message`:

## Common status codes

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `400` | Invalid request, carrier, phone number, or plan ID. |
| `401` | Missing, invalid, revoked, or expired credentials. |
| `402` | Insufficient wallet balance for the platform fee. |
| `404` | The requested resource does not exist. |
| `429` | Rate limit exceeded. Retry with backoff. |
| `500` | Temporary server error. Retry only when the operation is safe to repeat. |

> A timeout after a purchase request does not prove that the purchase failed. Check `/transactions` before retrying to avoid duplicate purchases.
